Pilanesberg National Park, South Africa’s fourth largest game park, is situated in a crater in the Bojanala Region of the North West Province. This crater is the product of a volcano that erupted many millions of years ago. This extinct volcano has evolved to become one of the most fascinating landscapes for you to visit. By the Genesis project the majority of South Africa’s wildlife is now found in the Pilanesberg game reserve.

The park covers an area of 55 000 hectares. More than 7000 animals live here in a free and unhindered environment. Pilanesberg is home to all of the BIG 5 (elephant, rhino, leopard, buffalo and lion) and we guarantee that you will be able to tick off most on your list of game sightings! Other animals that you may encounter are zebra, giraffe, cheetah, hyena, hippo, crocodile, jackal, wild cat, various antelope as well as over 300 bird species the list is endless.

Pilanesberg offers over 200 km of roads for guided or self-drive game viewing. On our tour you enjoy an extensive game drive conducted by an experienced and knowledgeable tour guide who will answer all your questions about the fascinating wildlife and environment. This tour was the first safari tour for me and they just make it perfect. Regardless that I wasn’t able to see all the big five but I know it is all about luck. John the tour guide was very informative and he had a good sense of humor and let me fell the challenge to search for the animals there. It is important to add that they provide a pick up/drop off at the hotel.

Great experience! Picked up at the hotel so I didn’t need to worry about getting to an unfamiliar location. The journey up to the park from Johannesburg is interesting and some of the views are really stunning – we could have done with a bit more interaction from the driver to point out points of interest though but it was enjoyable just watching the view.
The safari itself starts about 9/9.30. Our guide Ross was very knowledgeable and we saw 2 rhinos at a watering hole within the first minute of entering the park!
There are other organised tours in the park but the guides share their “spots” so if someone has seen an elephant further up, they’ll tell you as you go past which I thought was really nice.
Lunch in the park was amazing with giraffe, warthogs and zebra wandering up to the salt licks that have been put out to attract them. We only saw 3 of the big 5 (elephant, rhino and lion). The cheetahs are notoriously hard to spot and the buffalos must have been having a day off..You’ll get lots of opportunities for photos and the driver will wait for everyone to say they are ready to move on which was great.
On the way back we stopped at a roadside souvenir place – be prepared to put your best haggling head on. General rule of thumb apparently is to offer a 3rd of the quoted price (I offered half and this was accepted straight away so I realised my error early on!)
All in all a great day out – got back in to the hotel about 7.30 with lots of valuable pictures of a once in a lifetime experience.

Love this tour I fully recommend it
Kind people, Excelent Rangers and the Park is beautifull. I see more animals than in Kruger.

I did a solo tour to SA. The driver picked me up from the hotel on time. He was very friendly. We stopped for something to eat on the way to the Reserve. Once we arrived at the Reserve we were given instructions and turned over to the tour guide. Although we did not see many animals the ones we saw made it a very exciting experience. The tour guide was very patient and determined to be sure everyone was satisfied. Lunch was great and the drive back to my hotel went smooth as well. I would definitely recommend this tour!!

I was in Johannesburg for a business trip but had one day off and was looking for options to do a one-day safari. While Krüger national park is too far off from JB to visit in one day, I got a recommendation to book a safari at Pilanesberg national park with MoAfrica tours. This turned out to be a good choice. The tour was very well organized, pick-up was right on-time and we overall spent almost 7 hours in the national park and have seen a lot of animals including rhinos, hippos, lions, elephants, gazelles, zebras, giraffes. Our driver was very knowledgeable and shared a lot of interesting infos about the South African fauna. Overall I had a great day full of impressions and can recommend that tour for visitors who don’t have enough time to visit Krüger national park.

I can fully reccommend this tour. Only you should know that I had to pay 200ZAR extra (which was about 10% of the price) to get an open vehicle not only in the mornig but also in the afternoon. But it was worth.

You are sitting very high and have a good overview over the bush. If you would go with a nornmal car, even SUV, you might not see much more than grass.

Furthermore we had a very good guide who found all the good places for us had a good knowledge about the animals and the environemnt. Moreover he was very friendly and reacting to our wishes, which was possible in a group of 10 people, what also the maximum capacity of those cars was.

We have seen lions, elephants, zebras, rhinos, crocodiles, griaffes and some nice birds.

Last but not least we had also a very friendly and punctual driver who picked us up and dropped us off from the hotel using a usual mini bus.

I highly recommend MoAfrika Tours for a quick day trip to Pilanesberg National Park from Pretoria or Johannesburg. It was very easy to communicate with them via WhatsApp from the beginning, they were great at answering me promptly. Booking was very easy and they came and picked me up at my hotel in Pretoria early in the morning. We got to Pilanesberg around 9/9:30 and the full-day experience there was incredible. The sights were breathtaking and we saw elephants, lions, hippos, zebra, antelope, springbok, rhinos, and a beautiful leopard very close up. The guide was very knowledgeable and they provided lunch. It was an unforgettable day. After leaving the park, they took me directly to Johannesburg airport for my flight out that evening. It was all seamless and perfectly done.

I managed to get all the required info via mail and decide what was best for me. Team was great and patience to reply back and forth to all my request. I then payed online with a little discount on the rates. That’s the best way to do it in my opinion so you don’t have to worry about any connection of the portable POS the driver has with him.

Driver arrived sharp at the hotel but do not blame them for being late: they have to pick up people in different hotels and not everybody is respectful.

Arrived at the park (after 2 stops: 1 for refuelling and 1 at a local fleas market) we’ve been welcomed by the park ranger that care about us for the full day.

It is an experience that you cannot miss and doing with Moafrika Tours makes the tour simple to organize.

Overall a good experience and it worths the money

If you don’t have enough time to go to Kruger, Pilanesberg is really a great option.
Best time to do is June, July, August (during summer due to heat, most animals stay under shadows during day time).
The safari duration is enough.
If you go in summer, make sure you have plenty sun screen and a hat. If there has been rain, you’ll drive in dust, get ready for it.
This tour was good, the driver came on time and left on time. He gave us information during our ride. I strongly recommend it.

I found this company when looking to book a couple of days tours at short notice. They responded to my email in a matter of minutes despite it being a Sunday evening. I am so glad that I booked with them.
Fantastic day safari trip – Ross, our guide was just brilliant! He gave great insight into the animals and the history of the area. What an amazing day!
Then I did a half day tour of Soweto. So many different emotions going there. Again, brilliant local guides who were open and friendly – really felt I was seeing the real Soweto. I wish I’d had longer there. Can’t fault any of the people I dealt with – great contact, friendly guides and drivers and I learnt a lot. Highly recommended!

I was picked at my hotel and we collected few other people from different hotels on the way to the Park. Once there we were briefed by an expert guide and we started the safari. The guide/driver was very expert and she explained very well even the smallest things we found on our way, even an elephant poo had some interesting points to show ! We looked for the animals and we were able to see form very short distance elephants with their babies, rhino and baby rhino, zebras, impalas, gnu.
Lunch was OK. choice of wraps, sandwiches, rolls, etc with drinks, beer to be paid on your own. In the afternoon we looked for the lions but we were not very lucky, we only saw them through the camera zoom. On the way back we stopped at a nice market to get drinks and refresh. Overall a good experience, it’s worth the money spent

I did Ultimate Pilanesberg Open Vehicle Day Tour with MoAfrika in the beginning of January and definitelly it was one of the most amazing experiences in my life.
The whole setup worked perfectly. I was picked up at my hotel at the agreed time. The driver was very helpful and expalined a lot about the tour, the animals behaviour and what shall be and shall not be done during the tour.
As we reached the park, we met our guide for the day. He was very knowledgable about wildlife. We drive around the park for about 6 hours and met numerous animals. It is easier to say who e did not see. In fact, we did not see any lions, but we saw leopard and chitah who are usually very hard to spot. The lunch was great, at awesome restourant, with elephant grazing nearby.

I have nothing bad to speak about, all was perfect and great thanks to all MoAfrika and Pilanesberg teams. Great experience, must have, I will definitelly recommend it to my friends.
