Bobo's energy, experience and stories make this tour a must if you're traveling to Johannesburg! The full day tour included sights, culture and experiences in Jozi, Soweto, Apartheid Museum, etc. Whether you're traveling solo or with a big group you'll leave with an appreciation and education for South Africa, not to mention stories of your own to share when you return home.
We did a one day tour of the famous Cullinan mines and the City of Pretoria with MoAfrika tours. The full day tour was a wonderful experience. Right from doing the online booking to the tour guide we found them to be extremely helpful and professional. Our tour guide Mr. Kutzo was amazing brilliant, enthusiastic, culturally knowledgeable and very funny. Kudos to him...
I went on the full-day Soweto and Apartheid Museum tour, and it was amazing. I am a white woman who was traveling alone in the off-season with another white woman. I felt weird and awkward being 'that person' who's gawking and ogling someone else's life, but there was no need to feel that way. The residents of Soweto were totally welcoming and were anxious to share their stories on their own terms. Rather than only see the nicest parts, we drove around a bit and saw both the nicest houses as well as the temporary settlements and hostels, and we got to learn a bit of the history and currently politics of the place. We were taken by a local resident into a day-care and heard from the woman who started the program as she talked to us about the importance of education. We saw the thriving local businesses as well as the areas without water or electricity. Inside Regina Mundi, we saw the bullet holes in the roof from that day in 1974 when 4,000 students took refuge from the police in the church, and had the significance of artwork explained to us by another local. It's intense, and puts you outside of your comfort zone, but in the absolute best way possible. It is absolutely an experience that you only get once in your life, and I would recommend it to anyone.
I should also add that I felt perfectly safe the entire time, and that the Apartheid Museum was amazing. It's a full day of seeing things and learning about things that take some processing, and I am so thrilled that i had this experience.
Loved the tour of Soweto that we did this morning, Bobo was an excellent guide who helped us feel comfortable throughout the trip, he was knowledgeable and funny and a great guy, we had a lot of fun. The Soweto tour was fantastic, from the wealthy sites to the shanty town, to Vilakazi Street for music and sightseeing, the museums, and the wonderful lunch beneath the Orlando Towers (we got to see two brave souls jump from the towers, wow). Thank to MoAfrika Tours for making it so easy to book, and to Bobo for your guidance.
